About OurPorcelain Paving Service.
Porcelain paving is a high-density vitrified tile designed for outdoor use — near-zero water absorption, frost-proof, stain-resistant and dimensionally accurate. It's laid on a full mortar bed with a priming slurry to bond the tile to the mortar, giving a flat, stable, long-life patio, driveway or path.
It's the surface of choice for homeowners across Stourbridge and the West Midlands who want a contemporary, low-maintenance patio that won't fade, moss up or move — and for driveways where the look of natural stone is wanted with none of the porosity headaches.
Choose porcelain when you're building a new patio off a set of bifolds, replacing tired flags or Indian sandstone that's greened over, or specifying a driveway finish where uniform colour and razor-sharp joints matter.
Porcelain looks simple to lay — it isn't. Wrong bedding, wrong joint width, no priming slurry, or a mortar mix that's too wet and the tiles debond within a season. Full-bed method plus slurry primer is the only way we install it.
The Failures WeGet Called To Fix.
Cutting corners on porcelain paving shows up fast. Here's what to avoid — and what we build into every install instead.
Tiles debonding from the bed
Porcelain laid on spot dabs or without a slurry primer lifts within one freeze-thaw. There's no repair short of pulling the section.
Cracked tiles over voids
A mortar bed with hollow spots leaves point-loads under a chair leg or garden furniture wheel — the tile cracks straight across.
Efflorescence & staining
Wrong mortar mix or no back-priming leads to salts leaching through the joints, leaving permanent white bloom on premium tiles.
Uneven joints & lippage
Skipping tile spacers and levelling clips gives you a patio you can trip on — and can't clean properly.
How We InstallYour Porcelain Paving.
Free site survey
We visit within 24 hours, measure the area, discuss tile ranges (Marshalls, Brett, Bradstone, Tobermore) and quote you in writing.
Excavation & sub-base
Dig to the correct depth, lay and whacker-plate a compacted MOT type-1 sub-base with falls set for drainage away from the property.
Full mortar bed + slurry primer
Sharp sand + cement bed laid full — no spot dabs. Slurry primer painted onto the back of every tile before it's placed.
Laying & levelling
Tiles set with spacers and levelling clips, cut to detail on a wet saw for razor-sharp edges around drains, walls and features.
Pointing, clean & guarantee
Joints pointed with a proper porcelain-grade brush-in jointing compound, final clean, walk-around and 10-year workmanship guarantee.
Why It's WorthDoing It Right.
Near-zero water absorption
Vitrified porcelain doesn't drink water — no moss, no algae bloom, no freeze damage.
Colour-fast for life
The colour is fired into the tile — it doesn't fade like natural sandstone.
Stain-resistant surface
Red wine, BBQ oil, tyre rubber — a quick wash and it's gone.
Perfectly flat, no lippage
Calibrated tile thickness + levelling clips = a patio you can put a table on anywhere.
Low maintenance
No sealing, no re-pointing every year, no yearly power-wash routine.
10-year workmanship guarantee
Installation backed in writing, on top of the manufacturer's tile warranty.
Everything We Install& How We Install It.
Materials we use
We're not tied to a single manufacturer — we source Marshalls Symphony/Casarta ranges, Brett Aura, Bradstone Mode/Aspero and Tobermore porcelain depending on the look you want and the lead time. All installs use a sharp-sand-and-cement full bed with a purpose-made priming slurry, and a polymer-modified brush-in joint compound rated for porcelain.
Our methods
Full-bed method only. Every tile is back-primed with slurry before it's placed. Joints are set with fixed spacers (typically 5mm) and self-levelling clips to eliminate lippage. Falls are pre-planned at sub-base stage so water sheds away from the property — never towards it. Cuts are made on a wet saw with a porcelain-rated blade for chip-free edges.
Where it applies
Porcelain is the right call where a flat, contemporary, low-maintenance surface is wanted and where budget allows for the material premium — typically £30–£70/m² tile cost before install. It's the wrong call over an unstable base, and never worth cutting corners on the bed to save money.
Residential vs commercial
Residential patios and driveways are the bulk of our porcelain work. We also install for lettings and property-management portfolios where the low-maintenance surface saves ongoing garden-care costs across multiple properties.
Variations of this service
Patios & garden terraces
The most common use — clean-line patios off bifolds, sunken seating areas, wraparound rear terraces.
Porcelain driveways
20mm calibrated driveway-grade porcelain laid on a full concrete bed with rebar where required — for a driveway that looks like a hotel forecourt.
Pathways & step treads
Front-to-back pathways, step treads with anti-slip R11-rated tiles, coping and end-cap details.
Poolside & wet areas
R11 slip-rated porcelain around pools and hot tubs — cool underfoot, safe when wet.
Every porcelain paving install is fully insured and backed for 10 years in writing. In-house crew, no sub-contracting, staged payments available.
Over a 10-year window, yes. Sandstone needs sealing, jet-washing and re-pointing to stay looking sharp. Porcelain doesn't. On a total-cost-of-ownership basis it usually comes out level or ahead.
You Might AlsoNeed These.

Resin Bound Driveways
A resin bound driveway is a hand-trowelled surface made from washed, kiln-dried natural aggregate blended on-site with a two-part clear resin. It's laid over a properly prepared base — usually new tarmac or existing sound tarmac — to create a smooth, UV-stable and fully permeable driveway or patio finish.

Slabbing & Patio Installation
A slabbed patio is a paved outdoor floor made from large-format concrete, natural sandstone, limestone or granite slabs, laid on a full mortar bed over a compacted sub-base and pointed with a purpose-made brush-in compound.

Block Paving Driveways, Patios & Pathways
Block paving is a system of pre-cast concrete or clay blocks laid over a compacted engineered sub-base, bedded in sharp sand, and locked in place with kiln-dried jointing sand. Done properly, it distributes vehicle load across the whole surface — no sunken tyre tracks, no rocking blocks, no failed edges.
